Dental Bonding

The process of dental bonding (sometimes referred to as tooth bonding) refers to restoration of teeth using soft composite resin. This tooth-colored resin is malleable, which allows the doctor to mold and polish as needed. This procedure can help restore, recolor, and reshape broken or chipped teeth. Sometimes, dental bonding is also used to fill small gaps, and is an alternative option for closing the space without using orthodontics.

This process takes between one to two hours depending on the patient’s condition. Luckily, this process is completely painless. First, the dentist will roughen a tooth to create grooves in the patient’s enamel. This provides space for the resin to set in place and bond with other materials. Then, a conditioning liquid is applied which allows the resin to be molded, after which it’s hardened by a laser or light. The last step is making any shape adjustments or color adjustments. And you’re done!

Though dental bonding is quick and painless, the results can vastly improve the appearance of a person’s teeth. This is a great option for minor tooth defects that you are frustrated with. The result is a wide, bright smile that you can show off in no time.

Porcelain Laminates

Porcelain laminates, also called veneers, are a popular solution for misshapen or discolored teeth. Porcelain laminates are thin shells made out of dental ceramic that are bonded to the front side of a patient’s teeth in order to make color and shape adjustments. Given that this procedure is used to treat individual problems, it is highly customizable to fit a patient’s needs. Dentists customize veneers by working from an impression of a patient’s teeth which delivers a natural look and result.

Veneers are a more affordable option compared to conventional crowns, but are still extremely durable. Porcelain veneers do not stain or discolor and can last from 10-15 years. Plus, the procedure is usually less intense than placing crowns because dentists do not have to remove nearly as much of a tooth when placing a veneer.
