Options for Replacing Missing Teeth

If you have missing teeth, it might not feel like you have much to smile about. Missing teeth can hinder your confidence and can cause stress to surrounding teeth and your jaw.

Thankfully, the award winning team at Marino/Nassif has experience in a variety of solutions for replacing missing teeth. When you’re ready to take the next step in taking care of your oral health, we’ll go over your options and come up with an affordable dental health plan to restore your smile.

Permanent Dental Implants for Replacing Missing Teeth

A dental implant is a great way to replace missing teeth. This option feels and acts the most like a natural tooth when chewing, brushing, or smiling.  The dental implant replaces the actual root of the missing tooth and heals in the bone for several months. Your dentist would then place an abutment, to which a crown will be cemented.

A major advantage of dental implants is that there is no need to make any alteration to surrounding teeth. A dental implant is a great solution for a replacing one missing tooth, and even more implants can work replace several missing teeth. Dental implants look and feel natural and are almost impossible to discern from your other teeth.

Replacing Missing Teeth with Removable Partial Dentures

A removable partial denture is one option to replace missing teeth. A removable partial denture can move a little when speaking or eating, which can be uncomfortable. We recommend taking them out at night and soaking them in a dental cleaning solution. With a partial denture, you are not required to file down any teeth, and this option is the most economical.

Removable Bridges for Replacing Missing Teeth

A bridge is a permanent dental solution for replacing missing teeth. This method involves cutting down the teeth on either side of the missing tooth to be able to connect them together. Floss threaders, which slide under the bridge, are recommended to keep it clean.

One disadvantage of dental bridges if that you may have to cut down perfectly healthy teeth. Sometimes, bridges applied to the lower jaw do not last as long. Since the jaw flexes, the less flexible bridge can spring a leak on one side or the other to increase exposure and risk for tooth decay.

Sometimes, the teeth next to the gap need a filling or a crown, making this a great option to fill the gap and fix the adjacent tooth at the same time. A dental bridge can replace one or two missing teeth easily, and sometimes more if there is enough support.
