Affordable Dental Implants Can Provide What Dentures Cannot

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are replacements for missing or failing teeth that consist of a titanium screw to replace a natural root, a crown to replace the natural tooth, and an abutment to connect the screw and crown. A dental implant procedure can often provide a more effective option to temporary dentures.

To qualify for affordable dental implants, a patient must be in good general health and oral health, in particular. Patients also must be nonsmokers and not be taking any medications that would obstruct the healing process.

The Dental Implant Surgery Process

First, your physician will create an incision into the gum and then drill into the exposed bone to create a cavity for the dental implant. The physician will then screw the implant into the opening. You will then allow your implants to fuse to your existing bone for up to a few months. Next, your physician will secure any abutments, and allow for around two weeks for the screw and abutment to become fully secure. Finally, your physician will set your crowns.

Some patients will require both extractions and bone grafting before starting the process listed above. However, your physician will work with you to determine your ideal course of action for your affordable dental implants. In all, every situation is different, and every person heals in a different way.

Recovery From Surgery and Maintenance of Dental Implants

In some cases, your physician can give you temporary dental bridges or removable teeth to use while you are allowing your dental implants fuse to your natural bone. Your physician can also prescribe pain medication and antibiotics if needed. However, most patients do not report experiencing severe oral pain.

In all, you should care for your dental implants just as you would your natural teeth. Proper care includes regular brushing and flossing in addition to consistent dental cleanings. You will also need to see your dental healthcare provider regularly for both screw tightening and maintenance.
